Watercolor for the Absolute Beginner with Andrea Favret — This one-day workshop is an introduction for the beginner, as well as an introduction to Andrea Favret’s beginner watercolor class scheduled for Monday afternoons this fall. PASADENA - Instructor Megan Esquer looked out at the group of about 25 students. In place of desks, the students sat at picnic tables. While the focus of this summer school program provided by the nonprofit El Centro de Accion Social is on academics, with some arts and crafts, the more than 130 students enrolled also will learn about avoiding drugs and alcohol and cultural tolerance, El Centro Executive Director Randy Jurado Ertll said. The students, who range from kindergarten to 12th grade, say the outdoor environment makes summer school more fun. One aspect that separates the program from other summer school programs available is a strong focus on social awareness, Albares said. On their first day of school, some students took writing and math aptitude tests, while others did art and kicked around a soccer ball.
